Charlie Chaplin Academy Award Ceremony 1972 16mm sound colour/B&W film - $275 (Gobles MI)

12345678

condition: like new
model name / number: 16mm motion picture film

CHARLES CHAPLIN Honorary Ceremony April 10, 1972
16mm sound Colour & Black and White. Approximately 600 feet on excellent reel with can.

I purchased this footage brand new from Murray Glass / Em Gee Films in 1972 and projected it only a few times.  Still near Like New, near Mint. Murray was the foremost film collector, seller, distributor of obscure films unavailable anywhere from whence the Academy and other producers drew upon for footage to compliment their documentaries.

Eastmancolour sequences - altered colour. I had a terrible time trying to duplicate the colour images accurately.  I can tell you they are not as ruby red as they appear below. The B&W sequence is on undated Agfa stock.  The colour footage appears to be an advanced type of kinescope.  Colour irregularities do not mar a significant moment in motion picture history and the life of Charlie Chaplin.

It begins with Jack Lemon introducing the then President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, Daniel Taradash who, in turn, chats about Charlie and invites the audience to view his work, followed by lengthy clips from City Lights, The Circus, Gold Rush, Great Dictator, Modern Times, The Kid and the finale to The Circus.

After the clips, Charlie emerges from centre stage . . . audience adoration, Charlie thanks 'you dear sweet people’, Jackie Coogan, Oona O’Neill Chaplin (Charlie’s wife) . . . . . .   ends with long shot of stage and then the title “44th Annual Academy Awards”. A few feet before that title, the soundtrack was obscured with black opaque ink (standard practice in pre digital days).

On the night in question, April 10th 1972, the B&W clips were cut short owing to time.  The clip(s) sequence here is complete with one lab splice midway. I spliced the B&W sequence into the colour sequences. No other splices except between the last shot and the AA tile.  NO VS.

Price: $275.00 sold ‘as is’.  Price reflects my personal affection for Charlie, and the event, which occurred on my 33rd birthday - plus an unexpected emergency - hence my reluctance to part with it.
