Up for sale is a killer player-grade 1980 Gibson SG that’s aged into a great vintage vibe. Originally white, it’s mellowed into a classic creamy/yellowed finish that looks exactly how you’d want a 40+ year old SG to look.
The pickups are the star of the show - clear, punchy, and open ... SUPER articulate. Love love love them. I just don't reach for SG's in general, but I won't be disappointed if this doesn't sell. (will probably rotate something else out)
Condition / Notes:
Player grade with honest wear throughout (see photos) - no breaks
Finish checking, dings, and edge wear consistent with age
Frets are on the lower side but still playable (this was fretless wonder era keep in mind); I’d likely refret long-term, but it works as-is
Non-original bridge and tailpiece
Currently has tophat knobs installed; original speed knobs included
Structurally solid, no issues .... just a well-played vintage SG
Def not a clean collector piece, but if you want a vibey, broken-in SG with great tone and no fear of actually playing it, this is exactly that.
Comes in a non origincal hardshell case.
SN 82050053 - I could be wrong on the 3 - SN is super faint on the headstock.
$2,000 cash firm
There's one on Reverb right now for listed $4,950 (seems insane but I guess that's where we are now) and another 1980 in Alpine white that sold recently for $3,100. Both in better condition that this one (from the listing pics)
