I wish I could offer more detail on the specific name and style of the rug. This was originally a gift from a client whose home I sold. He traveled the world extensively and indicated the rug was quite expensive (roughly $5k+ if I remember correctly). I don't know the city or village of origin, nor the tribe that produced it.
I've never used the rug. It's always been stored. It does not appear that it was used extensively as a floor covering, if at all. If it ever was, it must have been in an area that received very little use. There are no apparent wear patterns.
