After Prohibition, Chicago’s South Side Brewery was renamedThe Ambrosia Brewing Co. which officially began in 1937. The company occupied the same building that housed the original Joseph Junk Brewing Co. which began in 1883 and was located on the corner of Halsted and 37th.
Ambrosia Brewing Co. was only open for 22 years. It just couldn’t compete with the many breweries in Chicago at the time and closed in 1959.
As you can see from the photos, the sides have all the original paint. The long sides have a separation where two boards were used. One of the short sides looks like it was used for staple gun practice. Generally, the graphics aren’t affected.
The crate measures approximately 11 1/2 x 17 1/2 inches and has printing on all four sides. The front and back sides have the original red painted company script “Ambrosia” and the logo in the upper left corner.
The sides are also interesting, though, designating that the crate holds 24 12-ounce bottles and the company phone number, with only four digits (YARDS (YA)-2219.
